A Garvan system integrated into the landscape, between pool, garden and sea views

In a private villa overlooking the sea, every element contributes to the experience of the space: architecture, landscape, light and, naturally, sound. For the pool area of this residence on a Greek island, Proline Audio and Video Solutions designed a Garvan Acoustic outdoor audio system consisting of 4 SN120 loudspeakers and 1 WN120 subwoofer.

The aim was to provide sound throughout a large outdoor area while maintaining visual integration with an environment defined by clean lines, natural tones, olive trees, light-coloured stone and an infinity pool opening onto the landscape.

Sound as part of the landscape

In an outdoor setting of this kind, an audio system should not simply be powerful. It needs to blend naturally into the environment without becoming a visually intrusive element.

The loudspeakers were distributed around the different areas surrounding the pool and the relaxation spaces, integrating them directly into the garden design.

Colour and finish were also selected specifically for the project, creating continuity with the surfaces, furnishings and materials used throughout the villa.

The outdoor audio challenge: distributing sound across the space

Outdoors, sound behaves very differently from inside an enclosed room. There are no walls or ceilings contributing to sound distribution, and the distances between the different listening areas can be considerable.

The design approach was therefore to distribute several sound sources throughout the space, rather than concentrating all the output in just a few loudspeakers operating at higher levels.

This approach allows the different areas around the pool to be accompanied by a more natural and even sound presence.

The design principle: distributing sound throughout the space makes it possible to maintain pleasant listening levels in the different areas, reducing the need to concentrate high sound pressure in a single point.

The outdoor audio solution: 4 SN120 and 1 WN120

The system installed by Proline Audio and Video Solutions uses four Garvan SN120 omnidirectional loudspeakers, positioned at different points around the outdoor area, together with one WN120 outdoor subwoofer dedicated to low-frequency reproduction.

The 360° dispersion of the SN120 allows sound to spread around the loudspeaker, a particularly useful feature when there is no single listening position but several areas distributed between sun loungers, poolside spaces, relaxation areas and outdoor pathways.

The WN120 completes the system by extending reproduction into the lower frequencies and adding greater body to the music even in a completely open environment.

One of the most interesting aspects of the project is the way the SN120 loudspeakers become part of the landscape.

Their cylindrical shape allows the loudspeaker to be perceived almost as an architectural or outdoor design element, while omnidirectional dispersion avoids the need to point it towards one specific listening position.

In the Greek project, the loudspeakers were installed among olive trees, white stone and vegetation, creating a direct relationship between technology and landscape.

Technology that does not interrupt the architecture

The pool area is characterised by a strong visual continuity between water, paving, garden and horizon.

For this reason, the audio system was also designed to avoid visually dominant technical elements.

The possibility of customising the finish of the loudspeakers made it possible to integrate them consistently into the colour palette of the project.

The result: distributed music without compromising the landscape

The result is a system designed to accompany outdoor living at the villa: from the pool and relaxation areas to social moments with friends and guests.

The different sound sources distribute the music programme throughout the outdoor area, while the subwoofer adds depth to the reproduction.

But the result is not only acoustic. The project demonstrates how an outdoor audio system can become an integral part of the architecture and landscape, while keeping technology and performance visually discreet.

Outdoor audio designed around the space

An outdoor audio system should not be conceived simply as an extension of an indoor system.

Loudspeaker distribution, environmental characteristics, listening distances, architectural integration and low-frequency reproduction all become part of the same project.

In this seaside villa, audio and landscape coexist within a single experience: the music is present, while the technology remains discreet.
