Back to the noise

From March 2020 to April 2021 many of our habits have changed such as the approach to noise.
In the last 12 months we have become accustomed to seeing a few people at a time, we have not frequented crowded places indoors and in general the noise level we have been subjected to has been much lower than in any other period.
We all remember what it means to walk into a crowded restaurant that has no acoustic treatment and have lunch or dinner with hellish din.
This discomfort we felt ended when we left the restaurant with a sigh of relief.

When we will be back to normal, how will our body react to noise after a year of almost silence? Probably with a feeling of discomfort.
As a comparison, it could be like when a very strong light comes on after being in a dark room for a long time!
It is an unpleasant sensation where an excess of light is clearly perceived and the eyes will tend to close. But then over time the eyes will get used to it and everything will be back to normal.

In the acoustic field, the noise of people in a crowded restaurant, as much as you can get used to, generates stress and does not facilitate dialogue with people who will tend to raise the tone of their voices to talk to a friend or partner.
But there is a solution to this problem: acoustically correcting the environment with sound-absorbing surfaces or panels.
