WHAT DOES 5.1.2 MEAN?
The Dolby Atmos 5.1.2 system is the ideal starting point for entering the world of immersive Atmos sound.
The acronym is not random:
- 5 indicates main speaker channels: front, center and surround
- 1 is the channel for the subwoofer, dedicated to low frequencies
- 2 represents the height channels, i.e., the vertical speakers that add the dimension “from above”
This configuration adds to the traditional surround (5.1) experience an element that radically changes perception: sound coming from above. In a movie, rain seems to fall on the audience, a helicopter actually flies over the room, while in video games, details become more realistic than ever.

WHY CHOOSE 5.1.2 CONFIGURATION
The Dolby Atmos 5.1.2 configuration is the ideal choice for those who wish to enter the world of immersive sound without facing overly complex or expensive installations. In fact, it represents the perfect balance between audio performance and simplicity of setup, making it suitable for most home environments.
Here are the main reasons for choosing it:
- Enhanced three-dimensional immersion: thanks to the two height channels, sound comes not only from the front or sides, but also from above, recreating spectacular effects such as falling rain or an airplane flying over the room.
- Superior sound accuracy: compared to a traditional 5.1, 5.1.2 adds realism and detail, allowing sounds to be located in space much more accurately.
- Compatibility with home spaces: it is a balanced configuration that easily fits into rooms without requiring special structural work.
- Balance between complexity and performance: offers a significant leap in quality over 5.1, but remains easier to manage than advanced systems such as 7.1.4 or higher.
- Support for modern content: movies, TV series and music mixed in Dolby Atmos are enhanced to the fullest, allowing for an authentically cinematic sound experience even at home.
THE ADVANTAGES OVER OTHER SYSTEMS
Many people wonder what the difference is between a classic 5.1 and Atmos systems. Here is a clear comparison:
- 5.1 traditional → Wrapping sound, but only horizontal
- 5.1.2 Atmos → Same surround base, plus the two vertical channels that open up a new dimension
- 7.1 traditional → Enveloping sound with 2 additional horizontal surrond speakers for an even fuller scene than 5.1
- 7.1.4 Atmos → The evolution of 5.1 Atmos with as many as four height speakers and a true sound dome
In summary: 5.1.2 is the best compromise between accessibility and immersiveness.
WHEN TECHNOLOGY BECOMES EMOTION
Dolby Atmos 5.1.2 is not a compromise, but an intelligent gateway to the universe of immersive sound.
With Garvan, the experience is not limited to technology: speakers that blend into the décor, customizable finishes, and fine materials transform any room into a space to be experienced.
GARVAN SOLUTIONS FOR 5.1.2
With Garvan, loudspeakers for Dolby Atmos 5.1.2 become true furnishing elements. Each solution is designed to harmonize with the room: in-wall models fit flush against the wall for an essential and elegant design, on-wall models are the subtle and discreet alternative when recessed work is not possible, and flat speakers offer minimal lines and endless possibilities for finish and color. In this way, your home theater is not just technology, but a stylish design that enhances the entire room.

Emotions are a fundamental part of every living being’s life. Sound and design are, for me, some of the most powerful means to generate and convey them. To share this passion, I co-founded Garvan in 2005 with Andrea Martelli.
